About the Artist
About the Artist
Meet the creator behind the fiber art made with identity, intention, and soul.
I’m Danyel, a Black lesbian fiber artist, anime lover, and the hands behind Kreative Artisan Threads. My work is more than art, it’s a living reflection of culture, softness, and identity.
Art has always been part of me. I earned my BA in Graphic Design, but for years, I floated between mediums, painting, digital art, jewelry, searching for something that felt like home. None of it fully clicked. Until the day I saw a woman tufting in a video… and something ignited in me. That. Was. It.
I did what any ADHD-fueled creator does: hyper-focused, researched, and grabbed a punch needle kit. That first mini rug changed everything. In March 2023, I asked for cash gifts for my birthday, turned it into supplies, built my first tufting frame, and made my first official piece. I haven't stopped since.
Tufting gave me what no other art form could. It’s tactile. Sculptural. Grounding. It lets me blend everything I love: Afrocentric storytelling, abstract design, a sprinkle of anime and BL whimsy, and spiritual softness. It centers me. It’s therapy. It’s liberation.
My work isn’t just “rugs.” They are fiber art paintings, dimensional, textured, carved with purpose and care. Every piece holds energy, identity, and intention. Whether it’s a wall-hung fiber painting, altar mat, desk pad, purse charm, or sacred soft sculpture, it’s designed to live with you, bless your space, and reflect who you are.
I create for us for the Black, the queer, the neurodivergent, the spiritual, the joyful, the soft. For anyone who knows the power of art as sanctuary and storytelling.
🧵 What Makes K.A.T Different
I don’t mass-produce rugs. I craft fiber art paintings, carved, dimensional, layered works that transform everyday textiles into visual stories. From character-inspired keyboard mats to altar pieces and sacred soft sculptures, every creation is a fusion of function, form, and freedom.
💜 My Mission
My mission is to craft fiber art that holds space for joy, identity, and softness, especially for those who are often left unseen. I tuft for the misfits, the makers, the spiritual seekers, the Black, the queer, the neurodivergent. Every stitch is an act of care, every carving a prayer for softness in a hard world.
🎨 Fiber Art vs Rugs
These are not rugs; they are fiber art paintings.
Traditional rugs are made for the floor and foot traffic. My work is made to be seen, felt, and honored. Each piece holds dimension, texture, and story. Whether it hangs on your wall, rests on your altar, brightens your desk, or grounds your meditation space, it's functional art, not floor decor.
🧠 Why I Do This
As someone living with ADHD, tufting is how I regulate my mind and connect to purpose. It’s how I bring softness and intention into a loud world. Through yarn, I offer more than color and texture, I offer sanctuary, representation, and radical joy.
I’m not just an artist. I’m a maker. A storyteller. A vibe curator. A truth-teller, armed with a tufting gun.
✨ Thank you for supporting Black, queer, neurodivergent art. Whether you’re commissioning something sacred, browsing the gallery, or finding that perfect piece that feels like you.
Welcome to the K.A.T fam.
