Behind the Fiber

Inside the Studio

A real look at how KAT functional fiber art moves from sketch lines and color notes to tufted texture, carving, and finish.

Where the idea gets texture.

Currently on the Frame

What I’m making right now.

This section changes as the frame changes—new experiments, commissions, color studies, and pieces in progress.

It Starts With an Idea

Before the yarn, there’s a plan.

Some pieces begin as hand-drawn linework, some are mapped digitally, and some are transferred directly to the frame. This is where size, shape, color, and balance get worked out.

Sketch it. Map it. Make it.

From Linework to Fiber

Watch the piece take shape.

The outline is only the beginning. Color gets built section by section, then each piece is carved and finished until the texture feels right.

At Work

The making is part of the art.

Drawing, tufting, changing yarn, carving, trimming, gluing, and backing—each step is done by hand in the KAT studio.

Made by hand. Finished on purpose.

The Details Matter

Texture lives in the little things.

Clean edges, small color changes, lettering, earrings, line direction, and finish work are what give each piece its own character.

Big Art, Small Details

The same process, just mini.

Keychains, purse charms, and smaller fiber pieces are tufted individually too. Tiny scale does not mean tiny effort.
